Today, we woke up at four in the morning because of the four hour siesta that we had taken the night before. Upon waking up, we decided to keep ourselves occupied before heading off to breakfast at eight o'clock. We decided to steal some of the bread and jam at breakfast so that we could make sandwitches for the future. After breakfast, we headed off to Chamartin(the metro/bus station) to buy future tickets for our future trip to Benidorm. Janelle was feeling quite spontaneous and therefore bought tickets that took us to Alicante(close to Benidorm on the coast) at six o'clock tomorrow morning! We are going to go to the beach tomorrow in Alicante and also booked a hostel there. But anyways, let's talk more about today. Soon afterward the bus station, we took the metro to Batan Station where our amusement park was located, we also stocked up on more money here. The parque de attraciones opened at 12 (late compared to USA), but there was still enough time to ride everything. It was like a little bit worse version of Six Flags with lines that were about 1/5 of the size at Six Flags, but we still managed to have an amazing time! Janelle and Joel were both great fans of this, and rode on pretty much every single ride. Our favorite ride of the day was probably the Abyss were you would go at a 90 degree angle up and travel upside down for a while. It was a lot more fun than we could have expected. This was a good ride, but Janelle and Joel also had their fair share of "less than par" rides. Our favorite was the Boat of Death where Janelle and Joel were lured unexpectedly into some sort of fun house that attacked your legs and tried to roll your ankle. Janelle even managed to fall in a rotating room...literally. After this ride, we we went to "Leprechaun Fields"-our made up name for the ride- where there were demon figures that looked like ogres and moving fingers(?). It was worse than any torture you could have experienced in your life. While at the amusement park, Janelle and Joel had a lot of fun though and enjoyed it quite thoroughly. They were so worn out when they got back that they napped again since they are leaving so early tomorrow morning. We have been lazy bums the rest of the night and have been preparing for the beach tomorrow. Overall it was a good day and the two had fun; they are excited for the festivities tomorrow.

  1. Dr. J was interviewed today about the Janelle/Joel/National Lampoon's European Vacation remake. In a surprising show of emotion, Dr. J stated "I can not believe they were drawn like moths to the flame to the amusement park, but one has to look at what their backgrounds are - I mean, afterall, they can find humor almost anywhere, and at anytime! Do you agree Janelle looked a little large for the little pig on the Merry Go Round? Joel looks very successful in doing his 'Impatiently Waiting for the Metro Imitation'." Dr. J sat back in his chair, reflecting for a moment, and then wondered aloud: "I wonder if the leprechauns were pleased with their visit?, I hear they despise happy go lucky foreigners and try to ship them to Pamplona this time of year". Dr. J concluded his thoughts noting "I will have to Google map Alicante but I am sure they will not have very many sandwitches there, just sandcastles. Be safe you two, and loan your cameras only to each other this time."

  2. Shelly notes:
Thanks for posting such a great history of your day. Janelle you looked tired on SKYPE today. I am glad you guys had a great day and hope you have a great day tomorrow. Keep us updated and be safe and careful. I also enjoy seeing the pictures. I thought you both would enjoy this article about Phelps and Tyler McGill. Read it closely. Tyler has to be so proud!!!!!!!

INDIANAPOLIS – Michael Phelps remembers setting the world record in the semifinals of the 100-meter butterfly at the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona.
And he remembers all too well the next day, when U.S. teammate Ian Crocker beat him in the finals of that event and took the world record down with him.
Since that day, Phelps has beaten Crocker a few times in head-to-head match-ups, but the world record has eluded him.
Until Thursday, that is. That’s when Phelps finally caught what he’s been chasing for the last six years, breaking the world record in the 100m butterfly at the 2009 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships and World Championship Trials with a time of 50.24.
“Ian and I have had some great races over the years, and to finally be able to get that record means a lot,” Phelps said.
Phelps led from the start of the race but was about three-tenths behind world record-pace at the turn. He built his lead on the field as he pounded his way home, and touched the wall to the roar of the crowd in the packed Natatorium. TYLER MCGILL finished second in 51.06.
Phelps now owns world records in eight different events.
“This is big,” Phelps said. “It’s something I’ve really wanted to accomplish. I’ve wanted that record ever since Ian broke it in ’03. Everything I’ve ever done is something I wanted to do and dreamed of. I would have liked to have gotten it last year and gone eight-for -eight (in Beijing), but it feels good to get that record here.”

I hope you enjoyed the article. Tyler now is officially on the US Team and goes to Rome at the end of the month. You had to finish in the top two.

Have a safe and fun day tomorrow. Keep us posted.
    Love, MOM
